Region 8 Interactive Video Conferencing Workshop
 
Warm-Up: “My Nametag”
Please create a FOUR CORNERS TABLE TENT nametag with the following information in the corners:
 
CENTER - name
1) Grade level/subject area
2) little known fact about you
3) goal for today you hope to achieve
4) ICON or SYMBOL for YOU
 
1) Watch Video Clip TEACH DIFFERENT VIDEO  and discuss reactions

2) Whole Group Discussion: What are Characteristics of Our Learners Today?

The millennials joining your workforce now are employees born between 1980 and 2000, or 1981 and 1999, depending on the author. Unlike the Gen-Xers and the Boomers, the Millennials have developed work characteristics and tendencies from doting parents, structured lives, and contact with diverse people. Millennials are used to working in teams and want to make friends with people at work. Millennials work well with diverse coworkers.

Discussion Oct 19, 2007 - 

  • Create adventures kids WANT to participate in
  • Short attention span - hold students' interest
  • All kids, generations are different - different learning styles, different interests, etc.
  • CHANGE is constant - curriculum is STATIC
  • FUN FOR TEACHER, TOO!!!! (rewarding, satisfying)
  • Students require technology skills for success, need school experiences to provide them
  • Accept diversities of students, broaden their perspectives

 

 

3) Exploring Possibilities for Videoconferencing Applications
Explore multiple applications beyond courses such as collaboration and curriculum enhancement. 
Presenters will share examples of exciting state, national, international distance learning projects. 
Participants can follow along and take notes on the presentation with IVC Handout.

5) Exploring Online Resources for Finding Content and Partners
After researching, we will shares sites we found and ideas for bringing content into the classroom.

6) “Monster Exchange” – writing activity
Break into site groups; create and describe  “monsters” ; send files as a WORD DOC.
Groups will draw monsters from descriptions and share results with both sites.
