"Podcasting is a term used to describe a collection of technologies for automatically distributing audio and video programs over the internet ...Podcasting enables independent producers to create self-published, syndicated "radio shows," and gives broadcast radio or television programs a new distribution method.Any digital audio player or computer with audio-playing software can play podcasts....The term "podcast", however, still refers largely to audio content distribution. A podcast is not the same as a webcast, which normally refers to a show distributed by streaming media." From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Podcast
Audioblogging is a variant on the blogging trend of online self-publishing, using audio to reach the audience instead of text used by traditional blogs. Audioblogs have similar form as blogs, using post-based entries cataloged by time and date. Many audiobloggers are also text bloggers and use both types of posts on their blogs. It can be claimed that if a blog post contains a linked audio file, the weblog is also technically an audioblog. Audioblogs that have come to use RSS are technically known as podcasts. Q and A - How is collaborative media changing your students? changing your classroom? What are your concerns? What are the powerful possibilities of students sharing their voices to a global audience?
Discussion and conversation:
Why do we have to teach differently?
Students are learning dikfferently than when we were learning, they are more digital in their processing, more visual
competing in a global world now and communicating in a global world
Relevant to me? my classroom can be global (flat) kids are comfortable talking to people all over the world they may never meet or see.
Too much information for one person to know all the answers, it's a collective problem solving environment that we are in now and kids need to work that environment, teachers need to provide the tools and structure and kids need to move with it, facilitate student learning with these tools. Provide env. wher can create, publish..
We have a responsibility to teach accountability and evaluation of what they read, see and hear....how to filter , part of teaching digital global citizenship, save digital participation.
Model and monitor and provide tools for development of these skills.
Cyber smart + cyber safER...can't make world 100% safe, just teach them how to work safely...
