What has been the easiest/hardest CHANGE for you as an educator?
keeping up!!
Keeping up with all the new technologies and the massive amounts of information the is churned out daily!
Keeping up with the technology that the kids are using daily.
I have always been involved in technology, so bringing it into the classroom has been easy. The hardest part has been convincing others that change is inevitable and it is GOOD!.
Following the new technologies and staying ahead of the students.
Hardest---To keep up-- or try to keep up with all the changes in technology and teaching. Easiest--- accessing new tools-- they are everywhere!!!
Easiest change has been to use technology to make life easier. The hardest change has been to be aware of technological ways to increase student understanding, but not have the means to use them. (hardware, software, and links unavailable )
To put in to place the new tools that are available to you and students.
Keeping up with technological changes that have mushroomed in the 60 years of my life.
Keeping up with the constantly changing technology.
Learning technology is a never ending process--I didn't even have to take a computer course for my degree.
easy would be the use of the projectors and computers although not in depth --- the hardest would be a change in student and parent attitude
The change from books to digital
Initially, it was difficult for me to jump on the technology band wagon. I was soooo scared of the computer!! But once I got past that I was hooked. Now it isn't me that is the challenge, it's keeping up with all the new ideas, and getting our district
Hardest: Using more collaborative strategies--getting away from traditional methods Easiest: Using technology such as PowerPoint, video projectors, and online streaming videos.
Trying to use cutting edge technology in the classroom without the proper hardware available.

This is GABCAST.COM, GABTASTIC is my channel.  We all responded to the audio message on episode 10. Here are some examples:

From Sara Hastings on 2008-07-16 09:02:16
I teach Spanish so the primary emphasis of my class is to communication. This would be good for communication practice-students could post comments back and forth about a question on current events. For instance, students could choose a presidential candidate and support their choice in a wiki and comment to each other without the heated emotions that speaking might bring up.

From Jeanne on 2008-07-16 09:01:05
I have already created a wiki for my classes and am working on building it. I can see where this might be helpful to put homework, project explainations or other useful items where kids and parents can access them. I also can see where you could put an overview of the days lessons for students who are absent using this particular technology

From Kristal on 2008-07-16 09:05:43
Megan I thought the same thing about have a way for posting class projects and homework on the wiki so that parents can look up on the cite to see if their child has anything due.

GOOGLE TOOL REVIEW:

1) We will discuss how Google Notebook might be used in gathering information for your Think Different choices.  http://google.com/notebook

2) In your small groups, one person will be the GOOGLER and will be invited to and will open the Google Presentation for THINK DIFFERENT.

As a site, decide on and select which ONE of your top five choices each group will research further. Each group will then contribute to the Google Presentation:

**One Slide with a PICTURE of your person, One Slide with the EXPLANATION of why they were selected, and one additional slide with whatever information you choose to share. YOU NEED TO CITE YOUR SOURCES ON EACH SLIDE.

What Wesley shared with us:

cell phones have more power than the computers that went to the moon in the 60's

why help students create and collaborate? We can't beat China and India in wages...our work places are changing......our standards prepare students for the 19th century and the reality of the skill students need are different.

Collaborative technologies NEED to be used for collaboration! So if all you want to do is to deliver a message, record it and allow users to view or hear it when convenient for them.

Start integrating digital tools with the BASICs first - 1) Social Bookmarking (delicious and diigo)  2) Digital Stories - voicethread.com; 3) Skype

Try something new this summer:

del.icio.us-- something for social bookmarking

Skype - hook up video, chat, and audio

voicethread -- Transforming media into collaborative spaces with video, voice and text commenting.

FINAL REFLECTIONS:

Overview of VOICETHREAD

PLEASE BROWSE FOR SOME EDUCATIONAL THREADS - SUGGESTED ONES ARE: MATHCAST, GREAT BOOKS, POETRY, TUTORIAL

In your small groups or individually, create a 30 second (or so)  "sound-byte" which summarizes your reactions and ideas from this workshop. Each site will create a VOICE THREAD as a whole group and will post the link on the wiki BELOW. Each site will review each voicethread, post comments, and then we will discuss as a full group over VC. (Have fun - it's ok to be SILLY!)

I plan on using the Wiki as a tech application in class to introduce and update students to various backgrounds/careers in health careers

I would like to use these ideas to help with my ESOL students and in my Acc. Reading classes. These students, who need to be able to use many strategies to learn, will certainly benefit.
